This elegant Dunthorpe pool house provides a comfortable space for casual outdoor entertaining with friends and family. Although new from the ground up, the pool house was conceived as a relic left over from an earlier era, a structure fallen into disrepair and then restored and repurposed. With this concept in mind, Cella Architecture designed the strong end walls to echo the forms seen in the nearby house. These walls were then spanned by a simple roof form to create a simple, beautiful space for outdoor entertaining.
Situated across the new swimming pool from the existing house, the pool house provides all the entertainment amenities needed beneath its sheltering roof. There is a comfortable seating area set adjacent to the large wood burning fireplace. Above the fireplace a built-in TV allows for viewing the latest games. Along another side a large barbecue is centered on the long stone counter which also houses a side burner, small sink, sealed cabinet, and refrigerator to make for easy outdoor cooking. Tucked away from view behind the barbecue area, and accessed through a nearby door, a small kitchenette provides more counters, cabinetry, a larger sink, and a dishwasher allowing for nearby staging and storage and easy clean up without the need to leave guests while entertaining. Passing through the large archway opposite the barbecue leads to the uncovered patio that is perfect for those warm summer days when it is just too nice to sit under a roof. Down a few steps from the pool house and upper patio area, the pool is easily seen from anywhere in the yard inviting the residents to go for a swim and to allow easy monitoring.
